Given as '35 km south of Sembe before the village Gouaneboum in the direction of Mékambo, at a track to Gabon passable only by bicycle'

Limited to the type locality, a small brook in the upper Ivindo River drainage, northern Congo.

Discovered by Huber in 1978 in Congo-Brazzaville at collecting location 149, 35 km south of Sembe near the village of Gouaneboum. This area was accessed by bicycle down a track towards Mekambo, Gabon. The return journey was made by car & moped & was made through primeval forest paths.
I understand that no live fish survived more than a few days of captivity on there return to Europe.
H.Heinemann & R.Lenz collected in Gabon at the end of 1979 & beginning of 1980. This was at the time of the rainy season. They were extremely fortunate to find fish which were brought back alive to Germany. At first these were thought to be A.seegersi but Huber confirmed them to be A.abacinum.
