Grand Harbour

Churchill on a visit to Malta in 1943. Taken at Senglea Wharf.
Victor's mother is seen in the background in the darker dress.
It is understood Churchill was suffering a fever at this time.

HMAS Australia in Grand Harbour. No date to this photo but likely to be late '30's.

Taken March 1937. Entrance to Grand Harbour. Valletta middle left.

Taken March 1937. Grand Harbour. Valletta top left.

Taken January 1937. Senglea bottom looking towards Floriana. Floating crane can be seen in the bottom / middle of the photo. This was later used to help protect HMS Illustrious from low level bombers in 1941.

Taken May 1936. I'm guessing it could be Floriana towards Marsa.

I was given a large envelope of old photos by Len Hesling. These ranged from Malta to North Africa & even one of the Arctic convoys.
They show views around Manoel Island probably during 1943. Many ships can be seen in the harbour
including submarines & some landing craft used in the landings on Sicily.

These were quite small snapshots & took some time to expand with decent quality. I scanned them as colour images to show the sepia colours.
