NIBQGHU NIFTAKRU FIHOM

AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN & IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

I started the website off by just putting in a few photos my father brought back from Malta after the War but now the site has expanded into many areas.
I have been sent many really rare photos of life on Malta right back to the 1800's. Personally these have shown me what life was like on Malta in these pre war years.
This perhaps goes beyond the original plan for the site but these old photos will probably never be seen anywhere else.
You can view video clips on just about anything on You Tube. Click the link below & it will take you to the main site. Type in 'Malta world war II' for example to see videos on this subject. See excerts from the film 'Malta Story.

I get loads of requests for photographic material for new books. So many requests are now coming in that I'm in a difficult position in giving out contributors e-mail addresses. I have decided to only pass on these details if contributors wish to do this. This is a delicate situation I hope you can appreciate.
This is the biggest depository online for photos of Malta during & pre WWII.

I regret I cannot give information on individual servicemen. I can put your details on the 'contacts page' which has been successful in some cases. Those looking for information on relatives lost on Malta might find more information on a link on the 'cemeteries' page which is very good.

I apologise to veterans - I was not there, being the next generation down the line I hope this site acts as a point where we will not forget the part Malta played in World War II.

Rommel's aim was to capture the oil fields to the east. This would have given Germany unlimited reserves of fuel oil & derivatives. From this base Rommel could have linked up with the German offensive in Russia, struck out towards India & joined up with Japanese forces. Also a southern front on Russian oil fields would have starved Russia in the eastern front of fuel oil & set up a strong base to attack Russia.
Malta was the key in stopping Germany resupplying Rommel. On this perhaps depended the outcome of the War.

I would like to thank Paul Lazell for loads of photos not seen in any publication. Pauls father Sgt. Bill Lazell served on Malta & took loads of photos. Paul makes some of these available on E-Bay. Just enter 'Malta' to find his photos. I have bought loads & they are on the website (with kind permission). This Hurricane is one of his.
See Paul's new website with a lot of photos not on this site.

Manoel Island 2006

I get loads of new photos & each batch blow me out of the water as they are previously hidden in attic boxes.

These people take loads of time in learning how to scan these photos & posting them to the site. This is unsung work. Some just send the photos for me to scan which I'm more than happy to do.
I always return your photos.

You people make my job very easy - The job on Malta was far from easy in the early 1940's.

THIS IS THEIR TRIBUTE !!!!

I would like to thank everyone for support in sending in photos, data & messages of encouragement. You people are making this site & keeping their memory alive.

This space is for you to fill.
Don't just sit on those photos.

Many people support the site with new photos. We thank you all for taking the time to contribute to this website.

People are genuinely interested & I get loads of e-mails from people who get a lot out of looking at these photos. Some are seeing relatives in group shots they didn't know existed. It's a great kick I know as I've seen my father in a photo in a book arming bombs.
This site helps in trying to put relatives in contact.

I would like to thank the HMS Hood Association for helping me with permission to use some of their photos.
They have a great site. Please visit it here.

The object of this site is to keep the memory of what happened on Malta in World War II alive.
We are making progress in compiling a website dedicated to Malta during World War II.
The site started with an envelope of photographs given to me by my father who served on RAF Luqa, Malta as an armourer between 1941-43.
With the help of many veterans & relatives of veterans no longer with us we are building a website dedicated to those who lived & served on Malta or served in convoy operations
or any other activity connected with this theatre of the war.

'Malta was the most consistently heavily bombed place on Earth during WWII.'
'More than once a million pounds of bombs were dropped on the island in 24 hours'.
Not only was the Island heavily bombed but most of this bombing was concentrated in small areas such as the Harbour & RAF airfields.
Please contact me if you can help out with photographs for the site.
