A
contribution in keeping the memory alive
|
You keep the memory alive in sending
me photographs. Some fantastic new photos keep coming in which have
been hidden for 60+ years & are not in any book or film.
Loads more are still hidden. This site is fast becoming a focus of Malta
photos.
Children & grandchildren of veterans send me photographs. These
people are also interested in keeping the memory alive.
896
photographs in this site
so far.
Please contact
me if you have photos taken in Malta during or pre WWII.
Their are loads of photos in books but many on this site have
not been seen in any publication. They are from private collections.
Please don't let them rot away
in your attic.

I apologise to veterans - I was
not there, being the next generation down the line I hope this site
acts as a point where we will not forget the part Malta played in World
War II.
Rommel's aim was to capture the
oil fields to the east. This would have given Germany unlimited reserves
of fuel oil & derivatives. From this base Rommel could have linked
up with the German offensive in Russia, struck out towards India &
joined up with Japanese forces. Also a southern front on Russian oil
fields would have starved Russia in the eastern front of fuel oil &
set up a strong base to attack Russia.
Malta was the key in stopping Germany
resupplying Rommel. On this perhaps depended the outcome of the War.

I would like to thank Paul Lazell for
loads of photos not seen in any publication. Pauls father Sgt. Bill
Lazell served on Malta & took loads of photos. Paul makes some of
these available on E-Bay. Just enter 'Malta' to find his photos. I have
bought loads & they are on the website (with kind permission). This
Hurricane is one of his.
See
Paul's new website with a lot of photos not on this site.

Manoel Island 2006
I get loads of new photos & each
batch blow me out of the water as they are previously hidden
in attic boxes.
These people take loads of time in
learning how to scan these photos & posting them to the
site. This is unsung work. Some just send the photos for me
to scan which I'm more than happy to do.
I always return your photos.
You people make my job very easy -
The job on Malta was far from easy in the early 1940's.
THIS IS THEIR TRIBUTE !!!!
I would like to thank everyone for
support in sending in photos, data & messages of encouragement.
You people are making this site & keeping their memory alive.

I receive a slow trickle of new photos which are greatly appreciated.

in private envelopes for over 60 years.

on Malta during these times & the Maltese people who endured so
much.

Malta Breaks.
I go over to Malta every year & have used the link below to
book hotels for around £100 a week for 2 of us. You can
get cheap flights from Luton on Ryanair.
Why not take a cheap break & see the Islands?

| I'm going over to Malta
again in September. Hopefully I can take used postage stamps from
my collection from all over the World in packets so the museum can
sell them to help fund the new hanger. If you have anything along
these lines please get
in touch. Packets of stamps have sold in the museum shop in
previous years. |

you can help build the new hanger at the Aviation Museum.

Please click the books link to the left & search out some books.
Read up some first hand literature from people who were there.
Malta Veterans.
A group is online. I would encourage those wishing to help preserve
this history to join in. Todays kids need to know what happened on Malta
in WWII.
Anyone can join this group from relatives to people with a genuine interest
in the subject.
I monitor this group & relentlessly kick off spammers.

This space is
for you to fill.
Don't just sit on those
photos.
|
Many people support the site with
new photos. We thank you all for taking the time to contribute to this
website.
People are genuinely
interested & I get loads of e-mails from people who get a lot out
of looking at these photos. Some are seeing relatives in group shots
they didn't know existed. It's a great kick I know as I've seen my father
in a photo in a book arming bombs.
This site helps in trying to put relatives in contact.
I would like to thank the HMS
Hood Association for helping me with permission to use some
of their photos.
They have a great site. Please
visit it here.
